An important object that MUST be
ready to go at all times after your second trimester is your hospital bag.
Whether it is designer, big, colorful or even just a big purse the items
that should be inside are going to be the same. As the mom you have the option
of taking two separate bags, one for you and one for your child or simply
combine the two into one. Many first time mommies tend to over pack which is
perfectly normal. Once you arrive at the hospital you will realize that the
hospital provides you with a lot of the items that you need.
The number one thing to
keep in mind is that you want to be as comfortable as possible because your
body is going to go through a lot therefore you are going to spend a lot of
time sleeping and breast-feeding. Things like pajama pants or yoga pants and
loose shirts are ideal for when you leave, but for the most part you’ll be in
the hospital gowns that they provide for you. As for under the gowns, the
hospital provides these really sexy mesh type underwear and maxi pads because
there will be bleeding after birth whether you have a natural birth or a
C-section. A lot of women bring their own underwear with them, but I suggest
using the ones the hospital provides because they are breathable, comfortable,
and can be disposed of so you don’t have to worry about dirty laundry. Another
thing to bring is a nursing bra or nursing tank tops. I suggest only buying one
in a bigger size of course, and wait to buy the rest until you know how much
your breast are going to grow so that you don’t waste money on bras that wont
fit. The last thing that is crucial is your id and any paper woe from the hospital so that they register you quickly and there aren't any issues.
Most hospitals provides a
care package that include toiletries, socks (with grips on the bottom),
shampoo, body wash, eye mask, massage oil and different little things to make
you feel comfortable. Pillows, covers, towels and even a belly wrap that will help shrink your belly as well as lower the pain are also provided for you, but if you
have an item that you just cant live without like your favorite
blanket or that amazing shampoo then feel free to pack that with you. Some things that they often don’t provide are things like shower shoes and things to style your hair with, so if you know
your hair is hard to tame bring your hairspray and brush, but it you don’t do
much with it anyways then you are ok. One last thing that you might want to
consider bringing is makeup. Just keep in mind that this is going to be one of
those rare occasions where people are going to take a million pictures of you
and your baby and you might want to keep those pictures forever so if you want
to put on your favorite face lotions and some mascara pack that as well.
Other than that there is
not much you need to bring. Think of it like a hotel that comes with normal
things that are used on a normal basis, but if you use something on the daily
that you know they wont have like your curling iron or your favorite hoodie
then pack those items so that you feel comfortable for as long as possible.
